Low temperatures will likely fall to the low 70s, with a few spots reaching the upper 60s. This is when high temperatures will be in the upper 80s and low 90s across the region, which is near average for mid-September. The cold front will slowly progress south and bring some of the cooler air into San Antonio late Wednesday and Thursday. Temps will fall a few degrees, but high temps will stay in the 90s. By Tuesday and Wednesday, the front is expected to become closer, but it will stall out near the city. Temperatures early in the week will come down a few degrees from the weekend, but temperatures close to 100 degrees are still possible on Monday.
Recent weather model data has slowed down the arrival of next week’s cold front by just a bit, but we are still expecting temperatures to fall into the upper 80s and low 90s by the middle and end of next week. But with a total of 1.16 inches of rain in San Antonio over the past three months, we’ll take whatever rain we can get. For the storms that do develop, brief downpours, strong winds, and small hail will be possible. With rain chances at 20 to 30 percent, many areas will stay largely dry. Chances will increase to 30 percent on Sunday as the center of the high pressure system producing our heat dome moves away from South Texas. While rain chances Saturday will be higher to the east, towards Houston, the Alamo City has a 20 percent chance of rain. Sunday’s forecast high of 101 degrees would tie the current record for Sept 10. Saturday’s high in San Antonio is expected to reach 103 degrees, which would break the existing record of 102 degrees for Sept. Temperatures will come down a couple of degrees over the weekend, but more records will likely still be set. That record will be smashed Friday by four whole degrees, which is quite a large margin when it comes to setting a record.
